Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin To Miss Time With Lower Body Injury

  • Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is expected to miss two weeks with a lower body injury.
  • Larkin left in the third period of Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
  • Larkin will be evaluated after a week.

Dylan Larkin, the franchise center for the Detroit Red Wings, is set to miss two weeks of action due to a lower-body injury. This setback occurred during a challenging 4-0 defeat to the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Despite participating for 17:36 minutes, Larkin’s involvement ceased following a third-period minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct at the 9:57 mark.

Coach Derek Lalonde provided an update on Larkin’s condition on Monday, stating, “Probably have a better feel of his progress after the road trip.” As the captain of the Red Wings, Larkin is a pivotal figure for the team, leading with 26 goals and 54 points this season, alongside being the top forward in terms of ice time per game at 19:52, over 55 games.

Throughout his nine seasons with the Red Wings, since being drafted 15th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, Larkin has amassed 491 points, including 205 goals and 286 assists, across 639 games.

The Red Wings, currently positioned with the first wild card spot for the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, are about to embark on a four-game road trip. This journey begins with a match against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. Despite Larkin’s absence, Coach Lalonde expressed confidence in the team’s current lineup, stating, “Very comfortable with the 12 forwards we skated in practice with today so we wouldn’t be calling anyone up to go in the lineup just not yet,” indicating a day-to-day approach to any potential lineup changes.
