‘Project Runway’ Season 17 Episode 1 Betting Odds

by James Murphy in Entertainment  / March 11, 2019

  • ‘Project Runway’ is returning to Bravo for its 17th season.
  • Model Karlie Kloss and designer Christian Siriano are the new hosts.
  • ‘Project Runway’ Season 17 Episode 1 airs March 14 at 8:00 PM Eastern on Bravo.

It might be more appropriate to title this article Project Runway Reboot Season 1. A lot has changed since the last season of Project Runaway ended in November 2017.

The show is back on Bravo, which was its original network home for the first five seasons of production. Project Runway ended up back on Bravo due to the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations and subsequent bankruptcy of the Weinstein Group. In May 2016, Lifetime renewed the show for three more seasons along with additional seasons of spinoff programs Project Runway All Stars and Project Runway Junior. Season 16 was the first season under the new contract but with the bankruptcy of the production company the contract was voided.

On May 14, 2018, Bravo’s Andy Cohen revealed that the show would return to his network assuming that Lantern Entertainment’s acquisition of former Weinstein Company assets was consummated. The fate of the spin off shows remain unknown. Several months later, the show lost longtime hosts Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn when they signed a deal with Amazon Video for what is being described as a ‘fashion reality competition show’.

That means it’ll be a reworked cast on a new network though all reports suggest that the format of the show will remain the same. The word from the producers is a bit more vague suggesting that the new Project Runway will include the ‘best parts of the original’ but ‘reflecting the changes in the world and fashion industry’ since it debuted in 2004. The prize for the winning designer has been increased to $250,000 and there are plans to allow viewers to buy outfits from some shows immediately after they air.

Now hosting the show are model Karlie Kloss and Season 4 winner Christian Siriano who will server as ‘mentor’ to the designers much in the same way that Gunn. Obviously, his interactions with the contestants will be much different than the more professorial Gunn. Siriano says that he brings something to the table that neither Klum or Gunn were able to:

“I’m very close with Tim and very close with Heidi, but I think what’s great about the new season is that for the first time the mentor is a designer. Tim was never a designer, he never worked in the industry, he was a teacher. … But I think what’s really special for the designers to be successful going forward is to have a real designer give them advice because the industry’s tough.”

With so little known about the new version of the show the first set of SPORTS INSIDER betting odds on Project Runway Season 17 are pretty basic. Look for more propositions to be added as the season progresses.
