  • OYO purchased and rebranded the former Hooters’ Casino Hotel Las Vegas in September 2019.
  • The property is open with limited amenities.

The Las Vegas gaming and tourism market continues its slow rebirth. The Tropicana Las Vegas has reopened and the Park MGM will reopen in October. On the same day that the Trop reopened so too did one of their neighboring properties. The OYO Las Vegas Hotel and Casino has reopened with little fanfare or advanced notice.

The OYO is located at 115 East Tropicana Avenue in Las Vegas and was previously the Hooters Casino Hotel Las Vegas. On September 16, 2019 it was rebranded as the OYO Las Vegas Hotel and Casino following a transaction by OYO and their partner, US hospitality investment firm Highgate in a deal worth around $135 million. OYO is India’s largest hospitality company and already ranks among the world’s largest hotel chains. They have more than 1 million hotel rooms and 23,000 hotels world wide through franchising and other partnerships. It is in the process of a large scale global expansion with the goal of becoming the world’s largest hotel chain by 2023. The six year old startup is based in the finance and technology hub of Gurgaon just outside of New Dehli. OYO has been picking up all kinds of investment capital this year–around $1.5 billion from SoftBank, Airbnb and others.

OYO has experienced its share of ups and downs in the past year. Many of their problems have been attributed to ‘growing pains’ of trying to get too big and expand too far too quickly. The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t help their situation both in Las Vegas or on a macro level anywhere else in the world. OYO was forced to lay off nearly 90% of their US based employees earlier this year–in large part due to the pandemic–but they’ve recently hired a new head of US operations and are trying to refine and refocus their strategy.

OYO Las Vegas will have limited food and beverage options for the immediate future. Hooters Restaurant will be open from 11 AM to 6 AM daily. Poolside breakfast will be available at Splash Cantina from 6 to 11 AM daily. Steak ’n Shake, The Underground Lounge, and Southside Eatery are still closed and will be until further notice.
