- Monday saw the major US sport betting favorites go 20-1.
- In the MLB favorites went 12-1 SU on Monday.
- They followed that up with a 11-3 day in MLB on Tuesday.
Yesterday, we told you about a Monday to remember for betting favorites. That was the day that favorites in the major US betting sports went 20-1 for +18.25 units of profit.
That’s nothing compared to the ridiculous run that moneyline favorites are on in Major League Baseball. MLB favorites went 12-2 on Sunday, 12-1 on Monday and 11-3 on Tuesday for a 35-6 run. That works out to +9.65 units of profit on Sunday, +10.25 units of profit on Monday and +5.65 units of profit on Tuesday. The Tuesday profits were undermined by the Los Angeles Angels losing to the San Francisco Giants as a -250 and therein lies the danger with moneyline favorites in baseball, particularly high priced ones.
Still, a run of 35-6 for +25.55 units of profit is pretty impressive. If only baseball betting were that easy. Spoiler alert–it isn’t. I’ve been involved with sports betting a long time and I’ve seen more novice bettors go broke by betting big moneyline favorites than any other way. A number of years ago, there was a novice baseball bettor whom I was acquainted with and he started the way many novice bettors do–by laying big prices with top teams and elite starters. In his case he couldn’t lose for much of his first season as a full time MLB bettor. He ate as much chalk as he could find and managed to win just about every time out. He would lay -1.5 run lines with impunity and completely dismiss warnings from myself and my more experienced associates that he was inevitably going to run out of luck. For one entire MLB season, however, he didn’t.
He came back the next year full of piss and vinegar and attempted to implement the same strategy. He didn’t make it to the end of May before he lost his entire bankroll. He was committed to his handicapping ‘methodology’ and didn’t even think of changing his ‘lay all of the big moneylines’ approach and would eventually ride it into the ground. I haven’t seen or heard from this guy since.
Anyway, here’s the tally of the MLB baseball betting favorites ridiculous winning run. As I’m writing this on Wednesday afternoon favorites are so far 2-3 -2.4 units on the day:
