Christie Brinkley Out Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 28–Updated Betting Odds

  • This is the 28th season for ABC’s reality show.
  • Christie Brinkley is out of the competition with a broken arm.
  • Season 28 of ‘DWTS’ will premiere on September 16, 2019

NFL quarterbacks weren’t the only ones experiencing injuries over the weekend. Christie Brinkely announced on Good Morning America earlier today that she broke her arm after a fall in rehearsals. She’s apparently had surgery on her wrist and arm and will be unable to compete on Dancing With The Stars. In an interesting twist, she’ll be replaced in the field by her comely daughter–21 year old model Sailor Brinkely-Cook. Christie released this statement to Good Morning America:

“Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season. Sailor joined the cast when I got mine … ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!”

Dancing is tough physically and injuries have been fairly common on DWTS. Season 8 claimed two contestants during pre-show rehersals as Jewel and Nancy O’Dell suffered season ending injuries. They were replaced by Holly Madison and Melissa Rycroft). Other contestants have ‘pulled up lame’ during the season and dropped out of the competition including Misty May-Treanor (ruptured Achilles tendon), Tom DeLay (stress fractures in both feet), Dorothy Hamill (spinal injury), Billy Dee Williams (chronic back problems), and Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Tamar Braxton (both from blood clots).

Making Sailor’s task all the more daunting is the fact that the show premieres tonight. That means she’s got to learn her entire routine in a matter of hours. There’s also the challenge of getting in shape to dance. Even for a 21 year old in good physical condition that’s not easy. A spokesman for ABC released this statement:

“While rehearsing for the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show. Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season.”

Here are the revised SPORTSINSIDER.COM opening odds on Season 28 of Dancing With The Stars. We’ll give a more in-depth analysis of Sailor’s prospects in our next weekly update:
