It may be 2025 but Aryna Sabalenka is still the favorite to win at the Australian Open. And it all makes sense as she is the two-time defending champion, looking for the natural hat-trick. She won the last major in 2024, the US Open, reached the quarters and the French Open and of course, won here, last season. Of the last 7 grand slams she’s played in (withdrew from 2024 Wimbledon due to injury), Sabalenka has reached the final four six times, winning three times.

2024 was an up and down season for Iga Swiatek. She was considered a favorite to win every major but came away with just the French Open. She was ousted in the 3rd round in both the Australian Open and Wimbledon but did reach the quarters at the US Open. She was a heavy favorite to win gold at the Paris Games but wound up with a bronze. She also accepted a one-month suspension in a doping case. Can she start 2025 on a good note?

Coco Gauff reached the semi’s here in 2024, and also the final four at Roland Garros but only has one major in her trophy case, that coming back at the 2023 US Open. Depending on the draw, she’ll likely have some stiff challengers before reaching the semi’s, and at these short odds, I’d lose elsewhere.

Jessica Pegula has been playing well, reaching her first final last year, but losing in the US Open. But she finished 2024 by winning the Canadian Open and then losing to Sabalenka in consecutive finals at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. Her odds opened closer to +3000 but has taken some money in recent weeks. At +1400 there is still plenty of value on the American.
