  • Long running Las Vegas sports betting publication Gaming Today has been sold to i15 Media.
  • Gaming Today has been publishing since 1976.
  • It will now become i15’s sports betting flagship site.

Las Vegas sports betting publication Gaming Today has been around for as long as I can remember. Literally. They started publishing in 1976 when I was just 10 years old! Since then, they’ve been a ubiquitous part of the Las Vegas sports betting scene and in the era before every mainstream media outlet was trying to get on the bandwagon would publish stories that you couldn’t find anywhere else. I still visit the site daily as they’re often ‘ahead of the curve’ at breaking sports betting stories that the mainstream sports and/or financial media won’t get wind of for 24-48 hours. They did a good job transforming into the digital era and are still extremely viable today.

In fact, they’ve recently been purchased by i15 Media which is the parent company of Las Vegas casino marketing group Engaged Nation. So far they’ve not exactly been forthcoming about their longterm plans for Gaming Today except to say that it will become “i15 Media’s flagship sports betting site.” As far as the future editorial direction the press release announcing the sale assures us that “The site will retain its sharp focus on the gambling industry and the ongoing expansion of sports betting in the US”.

There is some bad news in all of this–the new owners have announced that the print edition of Gaming Today will cease publication on Wednesday, February 10, following the 2021 Super Bowl edition. In all fairness, it makes sense–print media in general is an anachronism–but finding the newspaper all over Las Vegas has always been part of the fabric of the city’s sports betting scene. New owner and publisher Bill Paulos said that the gaming industry shutdown and COVID-19 pandemic haven’t helped matters:

“As with many businesses in our city, our operations and print circulation have been severely impacted by the effects of the pandemic and the related closures of all Strip properties. While we are saddened that the print publication will no longer be found across the Strip, we are grateful that the Gaming Today brand will live on within the i15 Media digital family. We have no doubt that Gaming Today will continue to provide essential sports and industry news.”

Generally speaking, Gaming Today has always featured a solid group of writers. According to Paulos, that won’t change:

“We are extremely proud of the long-lasting impact that Gaming Today has had on Las Vegas and the sports world. Our team of award-winning journalists has established our publication as one of the premier editorial sources for sports bettors.”

i15 Media owner Kendall Saville is pleased to bring Gaming Today into his company:

“I’m incredibly excited to bring Gaming Today into the i15 Media fold. Gaming Today is one of the longest-running and most trusted online resources for sports betting and gambling news. I look forward to carrying on that legacy and creating a one-stop-shop for everything a betting enthusiast might need.”

Classy move by Gaming Today to donate a chunk of the ad revenue from their Super Bowl swan song issue to a very important local charity:

To celebrate Gaming Today’s long legacy of sports reporting and five-decade commitment to the Las Vegas community, 50% of advertising revenues from the final commemorative print edition will be donated to Three Square Food Bank. Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization.

“This gift comes at an incredible time where one in five people in our city now finds themselves food insecure. No one in our community should be hungry,” said Brian Burton, president and CEO of Three Square Food Bank. “We are so grateful to Gaming Today for their generous commitment to ending hunger in our community and providing dignified access to one of life’s basic essentials – food.”

Best of luck to the new ownership of Gaming Today and we’ll be looking forward to see what comes next.
