  • Penn National Gaming has received approval from the Indiana Gaming Commission to launch their Barstool Sportsbook app in the state.
  • Indiana has become one of the better post-PASPA betting states and Barstool will become their 12th mobile app.
  • Barstool Sportsbook’s mobile app is now live in four states: Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Penn National Gaming (NASDAQ: PENN) has received authorization from the Indiana Gaming Commission to launch their Barstool Sportsbook app in the state. The Barstool app will go live on Monday, May 18 and will become Indiana’s 12th mobile sports betting app. It will be the fourth state for Barstool Sportsbook’s mobile app joining Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The past six months have seen a lot of activity on the sports betting front from Penn National. After launching the first Barstool Sportsbook retail location at the Ameristar Blackhawk Casino in Colorado in November they added three more retail locations in December–two in Illinois and one in Michigan. On March 9, they launched their Barstool Sportsbook mobile betting app in the absurdly taxed but otherwise too big to fail state of Illinois. More launches are on deck for this year.

When the Barstool Sports app launched in Pennsylvania last December Penn National CEO Jay Snowden had these comments about the importance of the brand to the company sports betting efforts:

“The Barstool Sportsbook app is the centerpiece of our Company’s omni-channel strategy. Since forming our exclusive sports betting and iGaming partnership with Barstool Sports in January, our product, marketing and operations teams have worked hand-in-hand with Barstool’s top talent, including Dave Portnoy and Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz, to create a sports betting experience that we’re confident will appeal to Barstool’s army of loyal followers, as well as our extensive database of existing casino customers and sports betting fans at large.”

Snowden commented on the launch of the Barstool Sportsbook app in Indiana:

“We are thrilled to be launching our online Barstool Sportsbook in Indiana at the start of the NBA’s new playoff format. Our retail Barstool Sportsbooks at Ameristar Casino East Chicago and Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg have been very well received by our customers since opening this past December, and now Hoosiers from across the state will be able to engage with Dave Portnoy, Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz, and all of the Barstool personalities through the Barstool Sportsbook app.”

“On behalf of the Penn Interactive team, our partners at Barstool Sports and our risk management and platform providers, I want to thank the IGC for their approval of our online sports betting application. As the only gaming operator with a fully integrated sports media and entertainment partner, we have the unique ability to attract new and existing Penn National customers to enjoy our retail and interactive gaming, sports betting and entertainment offerings, as evidenced by our performance to-date in Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Our launch in Indiana is another important step in our Company’s evolution into the leading omni-channel gaming provider, and we are eager to leverage the building momentum for the Barstool Sportsbook app with the additional launches we have planned for 2021.”

Although there’s no official timetable for the next Barstool Sportsbook launches Colorado and Virginia look like the most likely destinations.
