Luka, LeBron, AD Battle for Western Conference Captain Spot

As we progress to the second half of the NBA season, the third round of fan returns have come in for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. One thing that isn’t surprising to see is Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo atop the Eastern Conference at roughly 4.5 million votes. The Greek Freak will undoubtably be selected as one of the two captains, as Luka Doncic battles it out with LeBron James and Anthony Davis for the West captain slot. The way things are looking right now, there’s a very good chance we see a Team LeBron vs. Team Giannis 2019 rematch.

Alex Caruso (LAL) and Tacko Fall (BOS) continue to get overwhelming support from fans, as they continue to rise up through the rankings and are both closing in on the million-vote mark. While they most likely will not get selected to participate in the game, it’s definitely a site to see and provides a little extra excitement during the voting process (I’ve voted for both of them myself!). What’s refreshing this year is that several spots have opened up since perennial stars like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and even Demarcus Cousins will not be selected due to injury (yes, the injuries are sad, but it does open up pathways for other players who have earned the bid). Guys like Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo, Trae Young, Brandon Ingram, Domantas Sabonis, and Bradley Beal have shots to make the ASG this season when normally they might not make the cut.

Voting for fans, players and media will continue through the weekend and will officially conclude on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 20th. The fan vote counts for 50 percent of the vote to determine the starter pool for the All-Star Game. The two captains will then draft their teams live on TNT Thursday, February 6th out of the starter pool chosen. Current NBA players and the media panel each account for 25 percent to round off the rest of the voting, with every ballot having three frontcourt players selected and two backcourt/guards selected. You’ll be able to pick your side once captains select their teams from the voted All-Star starters on February 6th.

You can cast your vote for the All-Star Game here through Monday.
