‘Big Brother’ Season 21 Betting Odds Episode 20

  • This is the 21st season for CBS’s reality show.
  • ‘Big Brother’ is a spin-off of a Dutch TV series of the same name.
  • ‘Big Brother’ Season 21 Episode 20 airs August 8 at 8:00 PM Eastern.

Sam Smith was sent packing on the previous live eviction episode of Big Brother. This leaves the house with eleven remaining contestants unless they’ve got some evicted contestants hidden in the attic or something.

I have to tell you that I’m losing patience with Big Brother this season. Keep in mind that I go into every year of the show with pitifully low expectations but this season they’re not coming close to meeting them. The whining of the Internet’s class of perpetually offended that the show is ‘racist’ was bad enough. I’ve pointed out for several years now that the Big Brother cast might be less ‘diverse’ for lack of a better term than many other reality shows. For the most part, the casting strategy is to get a bunch of tatted up white guys, a bunch of white chicks that look good in swimsuits and for some reason one guy that always wears a cowboy hat.

This year, to their credit, the Big Brother producers has all sorts of races, sizes, ages, etc. etc. The problem has been that the perpetually offended are upset that the contestants ‘of color’ are treated like trash just like every other contestant in the history of the show. One group that hasn’t had many complaints are the minority contestants that have been eliminated. David Alexander is the poor guy who somehow became eliminated after being ‘banished’ on the first day of the show. He’s complained that he ‘didn’t really get a chance to compete’ and that’s a fair gripe. It doesn’t have anything to do with his race, however, just the stupidity of Big Brother’s arbitrary and poorly thought out rules.

The latest complaint from an eliminated house guest comes from Ovi Kabir. His gripe is that some contestants knew each other before the show began thus giving them an ‘unfair advantage’. It takes a certain amount of naivety to assume that a reality show is required to offer a ‘level playing field’ for contestants. Obviously, Kabir is right that contestants that know each other ‘in real life’ have an edge. As ScreenRant notes, this isn’t the first time this has happened on the show:

The concept of Big Brother is that cameras follow a group of strangers who are put in the house to live together, where their every move is watched with dozens of high-definition cameras and microphones 24/7. There were rumors before the Big Brother 21 season even aired that fans were noticing that there would be some houseguests who happen to know each other in the real world before going on the show. It turns out that there are reportedly a couple of crossovers that are happening, causing other castmates to worry if it should be allowed. However, although there are some connections on season 21, this isn’t the first time Big Brother did this.

The Big Brother producers didn’t really try to hide this:

Fans have noticed that there were quite a lot of houseguests on Big Brother 21 from the same towns, universities, or backgrounds. These connections include Holly Allen and Kathryn Dunn, who both participated in Miss USA; Isabella Wang and Kemi Faknule who both attended the University of Maryland; and even Jackson Michie and Ovi himself, who are University of Tennessee alumni.

If anything, the casting for the show is just getting lazy. While there is an implicit suggestion that everyone entering the house are ‘strangers’ this isn’t a rule violation or miscarriage of justice or anything. Personally, I’d like to see more contestants who know each other ‘in real life’ and enter the house with a venomous dislike for each other. That would serve to liven things up…
